BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in Augsburg, ca. 1750. Engraving based on joint composition by Ridinger and Bergmuller.

Biography engraver: Johann Jakob Haid (1704-1767) was a German mezzotint engraver based in Augsburg, known for his portraiture and reproductive engravings. He collaborated with numerous artists and publishers and was especially active in the mid-18th century.

Biography artist: Johann Georg Bergmuller (1688-1762) was a German painter and engraver, director of the Augsburg Academy, known for Baroque religious and allegorical compositions. Johann Elias Ridinger (1698?1767) was one of the foremost German animal and hunting scene artists of the 18th century, famed for his anatomical precision and naturalistic style.
