– (See here a scandlous pair whose amuse themselves with a doll, dressed in count’sclothing …) A pamphlet ridiculing Dr. Johannes le Francq van Berkhey (1729 – 1812) and Kaat Mossel (=Catharina Mulder 1723-1798) for their support of the Prince of Orange Willem V in the struggle between the patriots and orangists. He made a show with puppets of members of the house of Orange on March 8, 1784, amongst which this puppet of Willem I. He was called the ‘puppetman’ thereafter.

Medium: Etching / engraving on hand Laid (verge) paper.

Condition: fair, given age. With several tears as visible through backings on rear. Light soiling and creasing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
