– A dramatic engraved scene from Jacob Jansz de Roy’s travelogue, illustrating an altercation between the Dutch traveler and two Javanese attackers. De Roy, dressed in a European-style coat, is shown fending off two knife-wielding adversaries, one lunging forward aggressively while the other raises his weapon in a threatening stance. Smoke from a pistol shot can be seen in the background. The confrontation takes place in a coastal landscape with mountainous terrain and tropical vegetation.
