Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Based on a drawing by Dore for Balzac’s ‘Contes Drolatiques’. This drawing was part of a collection of similar religious drawings of unknown probably Dutch origin. Possibly made in a monastery, by monks or nuns. Based on watermark it can be dated to c. 1920.

Biography artist: Paul Gustave Dore (1832-1883) was a French artist, engraver and illustrator from Straatsburg.
