Jacques Scot Duc de Monmouth [….] – This original antique print shows a portrait of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, 1st Duke of Buccleuch, KG, PC (9 April 1649 – 15 July 1685), a Dutch-born English nobleman. Originally called James Crofts or James Fitzroy, he was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the eldest illegitimate son of Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland, and his mistress Lucy Walter.

Made by Étienne-Jehandier Desrochers after Adriaen van der Werff. Etienne Jehandier Desrochers (1668-1741) was a French engraver and publisher, best known for his miniature portraits of contemporaries. Adriaen van der Werff 1659–1722 was an accomplished Dutch painter of portraits and erotic, devotional and mythological scenes. His brother, Pieter van der Werff 1661–1722, was his principal pupil and assistant.

Condition: Good, given age. Small cracks not effecting image on bottom edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
