Biography engraver: Samuel Cousins (1801-1887) was a prominent English mezzotint engraver, particularly known for translating the works of fashionable portrait painters like Sir Thomas Lawrence and Winterhalter into richly tonal mezzotints.

Biography artist: Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) was a celebrated German portraitist known for his lush, idealized depictions of European royalty, especially those of Queen Victoria and her family.
