Similar to the British Museum entry (1838,1215.298); etching after a painting then attributed to Rembrandt.

Reference: Crayen 1789 (128), Wessely 1887 (189).

Biography engraver: Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1712-1775), German engraver active in Berlin and Paris, known for his refined portraits and reproductive prints after Old Masters.

Biography artist: Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), Dutch painter and etcher, widely regarded as one of the greatest visual artists in the history of art and the most important in Dutch art history.
