‘LA PREFACE’

– Erotic French engraving from around 1900, after Achille Deveria. Titled La Preface, this scene depicts a romantic rendezvous in a lush outdoor setting. A well-dressed couple reclines intimately in the grass beneath towering trees, the woman’s dress suggestively lifted as they engage in an amorous embrace. A discarded hat and shoe in the foreground hint at the spontaneity of the encounter. Dev?ria, known for his romantic and libertine works, captures a playful yet seductive atmosphere, characteristic of French erotic art of the 19th century. The finely detailed engraving and rich sepia tones enhance the sensual nature of the composition.

Biography artist: Achille Deveria (1800-1857) was a 19th-century French artist, famous for his lithographic portraits of writers and artists, as well as his erotically themed engravings and illustrations. His works are considered emblematic of the Romantic era.
