An etching showing four horses running towards “St. Stepn’s Chapel”, a building with open sides, and containing a party of men seated at a long table. In 1769. four candidates for Middlesex representative for House of Commons:
-John Wilkes (no rider because he was in prison)
-Luttrell
-Whitaker
-Rocher
Numbers on the saddle pads show the votes received.
Made by an anonymous engraver/artist.
Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 18.1 x 11.8 cm (7.13 x 4.65 inch). Image size: 16.8 x 10.5 cm. (6.61 x 4.13 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Light paper spots and remains of tape from previous attachment on rear. Some paper loss in bottom left corner, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
