Description
This French print shows “The triumph of painting.” Monkeys in clothes, one with a banner, pulling a cart with the text upside down in French “volle de p?te” (paste glue). In the cart a lion in clothes with a hat on, pipe in his beak and painting supplies in his hands. On the cart several small bags with paint, and texts in french like “vermillion”.
Made by an anonymous engraver/artist.
Medium: Engraving, etching on handlaid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 16.7 x 13 cm (6.57 x 5.12 inch). Image size: 14.5 x 11 cm. (5.71 x 4.33 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Some soiling and staining in margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
