Description

Satirical plate shows the collector of wine tax duties in Amsterdam P. Ryers, who took off with the proceeds on august 13th 1751. He is depicted with a money purse seated in a wagon, pulled by four women. We have not found reference as to the exact meaning of this scene. Possibly the women represent the state/people/victims, whose money he took off with.
