The glorious campaigns of the famous Turkish warrior Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663 in Paris 1736 in Vienna) as well as the 1st Duke of Marlborough John Churchill (1650 in Ashe 1722 in Devonshire) and Johann Wilhelm Friso (1687 in Dessau 1711 near Moerdijk) are shown in the Turkish campaigns and in the War of the Spanish Succession. In the Peace of Rijswijk, Mons was returned to Spain. In the War of the Spanish Succession (1701 – 1714), Mons once again fell into the hands of the French. However, after the Battle of Malplaquet and a siege lasting several weeks in October 1709, it surrendered to the Allies and was occupied by the Dutch after the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713

This attractive print was published in Jean Dumont und Jean Rousset de Missy: ‘Histoire militaire du Prince Eugene de Savoye, du Prince et Duc de Marlborough, et du Prince de Nassau-Frise, ou l’on trouve un detail des principales actions de la derniere guerre, & des batailles & sieges commandez par ces trois generaux.’, Isaac van der Kloot, Den Haag 1729. .

Biography artist: The Dutch battle painter Jan van Huchtenburgh (1647 Haarlem-1733 Amsterdam) accompanied the Austrian Field Marshal Prince Eugene of Savoy on his campaigns from 1708 to 1717 and painted his battles in large cycles. .
