Description
This print shows battleships at see in Malta, which has been surrendered to the French. The French fleet are seen moored off Valletta. There is much cannon-smoke rising from the fortifications.
Made by Reinier Vinkeles and Daniel Vrijdag after Duplessi Bertaux.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published ca 1800. From: Tafereelen van de Staatsomwenteling in Frankrijk (1794-1807).
Biography engraver: Reinier Vinkeles (Amsterdam; 1741-1816), was an 18th-century painter and engraver from the Northern Netherlands, who was the later teacher of several talented artists. He studied for some ten years with Jan Punt and joined the Amsterdam Stadstekenacademie. Daniel Vrijdag (Dutch 1765-1822).
