Description
This coloured print shows a map of the region Beauce, North-France, between the rivers Seine and Loire. Left below we see a cart with hay pulled by two dragons. A woman on the cart is giving the handles to another woman with a scythe in het hand. Behind her three putti.
Made by an anonymous engraver after Janssonius.
Medium: Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 61.5 x 52.8 cm (24.21 x 20.79 inch). Image size: 48.5 x 37.5 cm. (19.09 x 14.76 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Folds as published. Borders of region hand coloured. Creases in corners. Brownish in edges. Right margin two white stains. Two small holes, one in middle, one just above lower margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in ‘Atlas novus sive Theatrum Orbis Terrarum: In quo Galliae, Helvetiae (…)’ by Johannes Janssonius (1588-1664) (born Jan Janszoon). He was a Dutch cartographer and publisher who lived and worked in Amsterdam in the 17th century.
