Title: ‘Het overtrekken der Franschen, over de rivier de Waal in den Jaare 1794.’ This rare original print shows: Jean-Charles Pichegru and his army, led by Daendels, crosses the frozen river Waal in 1794 (actually in 1795 near Zaltbommel). The ragged-looking army with bayonetted rifles marches through a frozen landscape, with cannons and supply train. Separately published master print. Our definition of master print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Published in 1795 by: Groenewoud.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Brouwer after Langendijk. Cornelis Brouwer (act. Amsterdam 1773-1802) was a painter and etcher. He collaborated closely with Vinkeles and Ploos van Amstel. His daughter Anna Catharina Brouwer (1772-?) was also an engraver. Jan Anthonie Langendijk (1780-1818) was a painter and draughtsman, like his father Dirk Langendijk before him.
Condition: Excellent given age. All margins cropped, but generous. Some soiling of the margins. A small backed and closed tear in the top margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
