Plate : ‘Innocent Captivation – Amusement Pastorale’. (Countryside amusements.) This plate shows a young woman sitting beside a tree, resting a rake against her left shoulder, smiling down at two little boys, one of which lies on against the verge at her feet, the other kneeling beside him, holding a bird in a cage, with fields, harvesters and a distant town in the background to right. Rare and attractive romantic print. This original antique print was published by Anthony Cardon in London in 1801. Singleton. Henry Singleton (1766 – 1839) was and English Painter. Antoine-Alexandre-Joseph Cardon (1739�1822), also known as Cardon the elder to distinguish him from his son Anthony Cardon, was a Belgian painter, portraitist and engraver. He was a highly enthusiastic member of Freemasonry.
Condition: Good. Minor paper loss bottom left corner, not effecting image, backed with contemporary paper. Margins cropped to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional light stians from handling. Please study scan carefully.
