Antique print, titled: ”Ducatus Limburgum.” – Beautiful map of the area between Huy, Liege and Maastricht, and Julich and Linnich. From Caspar Merian’s “Topografia Burgundici”, Frankfurt: 1654.Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Caspar Merian’. Caspar Merian (1627-1686) was on of the most important cartographers of the baroque period. He was the son and students of Matthaus Merian the Elder. After the death of his father, he managed the publishing house his father started, together with his brother Matthaus the Younger. Thus, many of the stunning works their father left unfinished could be published, including the ‘Topographia Germaniae Inferioris’ from which the present map originates.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued, flattened. Narrow margins. A printer”s crease from the top margin to the middle of the image (a printer”s crease is caused by the printing process when the sheet is slightly folded under the press). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
