Antique print, titled: ‘Fabul: VI. Die ungleiche Ehe. – Eigen-Sinn im Heirathen wirckt bittere Reie.’ – Allegory on a un-even marriage, showing five birds (Owl, Cuckoo, Falcon and Rooster) in a forest landscape. Copy of the text sheet included. From a series of 20 Fable prints by Ridinger, of which only 16 were published posthumously after 1767. Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Joh. El. Ridinger’ after own design. Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767) was a German painter, engraver, draughtsman and publisher. He is one of the most famous German engravers of animals, in particular horses, hunting scenes and dogs. He was trained in painting by Resch and Falch, and was taught engraving by Georg Philipp Rugendas.
Condition: Very good, given age. Small tear in bottom, restored using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
