This plate depicts a lecturing rooster and Reynard dresseD as a monk. This engraved print originates from: ‘Reinecke Fuchs von Wolfgang von Goethe mit Zeichnungen von Wilhelm von Kaulbach.’ first edition, Munich, 1846. This edition of this famous tale is based on the 1793 interpretation by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (17491832). The 36 main engravings after Kaulbach sometimes incorporate contemporary themes and figures. This work was very succesful and later editions appeared, where the plates were later replaced with wood engravings more suitable for larger scale publication.Artists and Engravers: Plates engraved by Hans Rudolf Rahn and Adrian Schleich after the drawings of Wilhelm von Kaulbach (German, 1805-1874).
