Plaat XXVI. Wafer. – This original antique print shows an interior view of a native American house (Panama) with a Council of eight men being brought tobacco by a boy. Bows, quivers of arrows and feather head-dresses hang from the wall. To the left as viewed, an exterior landscape includes hammocks hung from palm trees.

From William Sewel’s Dutch translation of William Dampier’s travel logue: ‘Nieuwe Reistogt rondom de Wereld …’ (A New Voyage Round the World), published in Nijmegen by Isaac van Campen, 1771.

Made by Jan Lamsvelt after an anonymous artist. Engraver: Jan van Lamsvelt (Dutch; 1674-1743) mostly worked as engraver for the publisher Van der Aa.

Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
