Original etching/engraving on handlaid (verge) paper. on paper.
Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 12 x 20.5 cm. The image size is ca. 9 x 14.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 4.7 x 8.1 inch. The image size is ca. 3.5 x 5.7 inch.
Original antique print, titled: ‘Sepulture de Jesus’. It is numbered t. I, pl. 39, p. 270. It shows: the Bible scene Mark 15:46, where Joseph, Mary and Mary Magdalene are laying Jesus to rest in his tomb. This original print originates from a work by Basan: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure’, published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1767.Artists and Engravers: Artist: J.M. Moreau. Engraver: J.B. Simonet. Published by: Basan, in 1767. Jean-Baptiste Simonet (1742-1813) was a French engraver. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1767.
Condition: Good, given age. Margins stained. Small spot of paper erosion in the bottom margin. Printer’s fold in the bottom margin.General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
