Original antique print.It is numbered t. II, p. 93. It shows: a beggar, dressed in rags and bare feet, leaning on a cane. He has an unkempt beard and hair. This engraving is in the same vein as the series of beggars (Les Gueux) by Callot, although it is not a direct copy. This original print originates from a work by Basan: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure’, published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1767.Artists and Engravers: Artist: Jacques Callot. Engraver: J.B.M. Pierre. Published by: Basan, in 1767. Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre (1713-1789) was a French engraver. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1767.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins a little stained.General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
