Original antique print.It is numbered t. II, p. 23. It shows: a double image: 1) Henri IV. et Gabriele d’Estrees dans les jardins d’Anet (Henry IV and his mistress in a loving embrace in a garden), and 2) La Verite s’efforce de sortir un nuage epais don’t elle est envelopee (Truth struggles to break free from a thick cloud that envelops her). This original print originates from a work by Basan: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure’, published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1767.Artists and Engravers: Artist: Ch. Eisen. Engraver: X. Massard. Published by: Basan, in 1767. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1767.
Condition: Very good, given age. Left edge a little browned.General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
