Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 57 x 44,2 cm. The image size is ca. 54 x 42 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 22,4 x 17,4 inch. The image size is ca. 21,3 x 16,5 inch.
Antique print, titled: ”The seat of War in the East.” – This map shows the the Black Sea and Crimea, with small engraved views of several cities and places around the Black Sea: Istanbul, Belgrade, Constantinople and others. Printed by R.S. Francis and published by James Judd, 1854. This map was bound into a copy of: George Dodd, “Pictorial History of the Russian War 1854-5-6.” London: W. & R. Chambers, 1856. Apparently quite scarce, as we have not been able to find another copy.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘George Dorrington’ after own design. George Dorrington (active 1838-1901) was a British wood engraver and printmaker.
Condition: Fair, given age. Original folds, as issued. A closed tear in the left edge of the sheet and image, some paper loss in the lower left margin. Another closed tear in the lower right of the image. A small damage in the right edge of middle fold, minimally damaging the image. Some scattered foxing and faint stains. Sheet attached to a linnen carrier. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
