Plate 52: ‘Een soldaat Christen geworden zynde legt zyn geweer af in ‘t aanzien van ‘t gansche heir’ (A soldier turned Christian lays down his arms in front of the entire army). This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C. Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold. Some general age-related toning and thumbing, please study scan carefully.
