Plate XXI: ‘Celastrus Buxifolius, Diosma Pulchella – Kaaps Heestertje’ (Staff tree, bittersweet, Diosma Rice-Flower)’ This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Natuurlyke Historie of Uitvoerige Beschryving der Dieren, Planten en Mineraalen…’ by F. Houttuyn and J. van der Burgh, published in Amsterdam 1761-1785. (Translation: Natural history or extensive desription of animals, plants and minerals …) This is essentially a Dutch version of ‘Linnaeus Systema Naturae’, enlarged, amended and with plates.Artists and Engravers: Author: Maarten Houttuyn (1720-1798) was a Dutch physician in Amsterdam. Carl or Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778) (also known as Carl von Linne after his ennoblement) was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist. He is considered the father of modern Taxonomy and ecology. The engravers of the plates are J.C. Philips and G. Philips.
Condition: Excellent. General age related toning. A bit more browned at the paper edges. Original fold lines as issued.
