Antique print, titled: ‘Wapens en Namen van de Burgermeesteren tot Amsterdam sedert Anno 1578 tot heden toe.’ – Stained glass window in the New church of Amsterdam depicting Coat of arms of Amsterdam Mayors since 1578. From: the second edition (first 1693) of ‘Beschryvinge van Amsterdam….’, 1726, one of the best 17th. century descriptions of Amsterdam, based on the works of Dapper and van Domselaar and on materials furnished by the author’s father Isaac Commelin. Casparus Commelin had access to the archives of the city and thus considered more reliable than Dapper/Domselaar.Artists and Engravers: Anonymous.
