Plate: Ornamental Greco-Roman vase with snake, cherub, gods. Full sheet with text on front and rear. The poem at the top tells that although the religious symbolism af antique mythology has no meaning for christians, its art is valuable. This original old antique print / plate originates from a first edition of: ´L´Academia Tedesca della Architectura, Scultura & Pittura: oder Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Künste …´, by Joachim von Sandrart der Alte., published in Nuremburg, Germany in 1675. The Teutsche Academie is an illustrated compendium of art education and of artist biographies compiled from a variety of sources as well as descriptions of Roman antiquities, inventories of famous private art collections and libraries.Artists and Engravers: Author and Artist: Joachim von Sandrart der Alte. (1606 – 1688). Sandrart, born in Frankfurt am Main, was a famour art historian, painter, engraver and translator. His most famous work ´Teutsche Academie…´ was published in 1675 and a second extended edition in 1679.

Condition: Fine. General age related toning and light staining from handling and damp. A few small worm holes and backed bottom right corner, not effecting image. Paper edges irregular and chipped with stronger discoloration, not effecting image.
