Known as: Amor, Tod und Jenseits – Love, death and beyond. Amor seated nude on a vehicle, followed by figures representing death. A skeleton sits on the back of a fantastic vehicle, resembling a coffin with legs. He chases Cupid who navigates from a bicycle seat in front, bow in hand. A buffalo like figure carries a ghostly figure. The image might represent a disturbing concept of the Beyond, or simply a figure from Klinger’s own imagination.

Made by ‘Max klinger’ after own design. Max Klinger (1857-1920) was a German symbolist painter, sculptor, printmaker, and writer. He was a skilled and imaginative artist and is considered by many a major link between the symbolist and metaphysical and surrealist movements.

Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling. Faint staining at left. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
