‘Sinus Omnium Sanctorum’

Copperplate engraving/etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 37,5 x 31 cm. (14,8 x 12,2 inch). Image size: 35,2 x 27,8 cm. (13,9 x 10,9 inch).

This old antique print originates from: ‘America: being the latest, and most accurate description of the New World; containing the original of the inhabitants,and the remarkable voyages thither’.

Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘John Ogilby’. John Ogilby (1600-1676) was a Scottish translator, impresario and cartographer. Best known for publishing the first British road atlas.

Condition: Good, given age. A few minor crinkles or light crease. Edges with some tiny tears. Neatly repaired tear left edge. Original middle fold as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
