Made by ‘Jean-Charles François.’ after ‘Charles-André van Loo’. This Head of a Child and other drawings were popularized in the 18th century as engravings both in ink and in the crayon manner by Jean-Charles François. These prints were greatly admired and copied by other artists of the period. Jean-Charles François (4 May 1717 – 22 March 1769) was a French engraver.
François was born at Nancy. He was among the first to introduce engravings representing crayon and chalk drawings, and was pensioned by Louis XV, who employed him extensively. His most noted works represent that king and his queen, Pierre Bayle, Erasmus, John Locke, and Nicolas Malebranche.
Charles-André van Loo (1705-1765) was a French visual artist. Charles-André van Loo has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the National Gallery of Australia and at the The Wallace Collection. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction.

Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling, creading and folding particularly in the middle General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
