‘Prospectus Castelli Heeswyck’

Etching / engraving on hand laid paper.
Sheet size: 25,4 x 17 cm. (10 x 6,7 inch). Image size: 20,2 x 11,2 cm. (8 x 4,4 inch).

This or a similar original old antique print can be found in different works: ‘Groot werreldlyk tooneel des hertogdoms van Braband …’ or its latin version ‘Castella et Praetoria Nobilium Brabantiae …’, (transl.: Castles in the Duchy of Brabant.) by Jakob Le Roy, published 1690-1730. And also: ‘Vermakelykheden van Brabant, en deszelfs onderhoorige Landen…’ or its French version ‘Delices de Brabant et de ses campagnes…’, by Philipe de Cantillon, published 1757-1770. As such we estimate that this copperplate dates from around 1696.

Made by ‘Gaspar Bouttats’ after ‘J. van Croes’. The engravers in this work include: Henricus Causé (1648-1699), Franz Ertinger (1640-1710), J.Harrewijn, Robert Whitehand, Bouttats, N.Stramot, G. De Bruyn after drawings by J. Van Croes. Gaspar Bouttats (1625-1695) was a Flemish engraver from Antwerp, mostly working for book publishers. Author: Jacques Le Roy, also referred to as Jacob or Jacobus, was a Flemish baron, historian and theologian who lived from 1633-1719.

Condition: Good, given age. Light browning. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
