Etching on hand laid (vergé) paper. Watermark: Structure with birds.

Made by ‘Jean-Baptiste le Prince’ after own design. Jean Baptist Le Prince (1734-1781) came from Metz and studied with Boucher in Paris. He stayed in St. Petersburg between 1758 and 1763. After returning to France he etched many Russian scenes. Le Prince is also considered to be the inventor of the aquatint.

Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling. Paper a bit thin at top corners. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
