La Nuit. De nacht

Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 31,6 x 26 cm. (12,4 x 10,2 inch). Image size: 30 x 22,5 cm. (11,8 x 8,9 inch).

Possibly from a series of times of the day, although only a morning scene is known to exist. Age: c. 1706-1722. Ref: Rijksmuseum state 1(2)

Made by Schoute after Schoute. Gilbert / Gysbert / Gisbert Schoute was a Dutch engraver and draughtsman, active c. 1706-1722 in Amsterdam.

Condition: Good, given age. Trimmed close to plate edge. Old horizontal and vertical fold lines, which can be flattened. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
