Etching / engraving on Hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Arms of Le Tellier and double L.
Sheet size: 33,5 x 23,9 cm. (13,2 x 9,4 inch). Image size: 31,2 x 21,7 cm. (12,3 x 8,5 inch).

From: an undetermined series of fountain designs, published c. 1650.

Made by Jean Lepautre after own design. Jean le Pautre / Lepautre (1618-1682) was a French designer and engraver. Le Pautre was an apprentice to a carpenter and builder. In addition to learning mechanical and constructive work, he developed considerable skill with the pencil. His designs, innumerable in quantity and exuberant in content, consisted mainly of ceilings, friezes, chimney-pieces, doorways and mural decorations. He also devised fire-dogs, sideboards, cabinets, console tables, mirrors and other pieces of furniture. Publisher: Jean I Leblond (French, ca. 1590–1666 Paris).

Condition: Fair, given age. Light soiling a creasing. Several small tears in paper edges. Remains of paper fom previous attachment on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
